FROM THE SENIOR MINISTER
September has been a faithfully active time
in the life of our church and indeed WE ARE THE CHURCH TOGETHER as the
song tells us. On the altar (among
other things) we have celebrated ‘clown ministry’ ~ an overflow of
incredible children ~ holy communion ~ uplifting music ~ a beautiful wedding of two of our members ~
2 special baptisms ~ and the creative energy of receiving TEN new members.
·
In
receiving these new members, I discovered that you never know how or when you
can influence the lives of others. One
of our members said she was at a Saturday night party and as the hour grew
later, she said “I really need to leave – we’ve got church in the morning”…and
those within hearing looked surprised – and one even said… “Church?” She responded by saying – “It’s the Seekonk
Congregational Church on
As we
move now into October, there will be much to celebrate – our faith, our
commitment, our ministry – remember~ we are ALL ministers together –
our community, our life together as God’s people. Also – our WITNESS.
·
As
the Church Council met in September, some volunteered to go on the web-site (www.scc-ucc.com) and go through it looking
with the eyes of someone who is searching for a church community. If any of you might also be willing to do
that – please pass on your discoveries of what else might be helpful there –
because we ARE the church together – it’s not MY church or the Deacon’s Church
or the Staff’s church - it’s OUR church and we are all in ministry together!
In Christ’s Love,
Joy

FROM THE PARISH NURSE
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful sensation or numbness of
the thumb, fingers and wrist as well as a weak grip. It is caused by
compression of the nerves that pass through the bones and ligaments of
the wrist. In a few instances this syndrome may be the result of
rheumatoid arthritis or diabetes.
Treatment may include wearing a wrist splint to rest the
wrist and open the tunnel and/or the use of anti-inflammatories such as
Advil or Aleve. If these treatments don't work injections of cortisone by a
physician may be the next choice and lastly surgery.
For more info. please contact your PCP or Addie Heelan,
Parish Nurse
FLU
PROTECTION
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention
recommends an annual flu vaccine as the strain of the virus changes year
to year. The ideal time to immunize is October, November and December before
the flu season begins. It takes approximately 2 weeks for the immunity to kick
in.
Saturday,
October 4th
