MISSION RESOLUTION

Whereas, we need to set a faithful example of stewardship of creation for our children and all future generations…

Whereas, we have a moral responsibility to do all that we can do to care for the Earth…

Whereas, we must take into consideration the long-term impact of our actions…

Whereas, acting with integrity sometimes requires sacrifice…

We, the members of the Seekonk Congregational Church resolve the following:

We will continue to purchase electricity through New England Greenstart.

We will continue to be a “Styrofoam free” church, as we have for the past 20 years.

We will continue to replace every possible light bulb in the sanctuary building and in the church school building with compact florescent bulbs.

We will continue to take part in the
Massachusetts public works Adopt-a-highway program, cleaning up our assigned section of the road.

We will continue our recycling program for all plastic, glass, and paper which is eligible, as well as for
Massachusetts deposit items which are collected and turned in for money which is used for mission concerns.

When circumstances permit, we will eliminate the use of air conditioning in the sanctuary when the inside temperature is below 78 degrees. Also, the low temperature will be set at 75 degrees.

We will make every effort in future building projects to explore the use of materials that are environmentally friendly and to take energy efficiency into account.

We will make every effort in future landscaping projects to use environmentally friendly materials and native plants.

We will take into consideration the environmental impact of all future purchases.

As individuals and as a community, we will continue to provide each other with the information and the resources to make environmentally responsible choices in our lives.

In conclusion, we resolve to continue with environmental education and action in whatever way is possible and effective.
